Today's Flowers - Magnolias

It's been a while since I've been able to participate in Today's Flowers. I'm glad I got a chance to post and visit this week!

These were taken last month at one of my favorite spots, Descanso Gardens in La Canada/Flintridge, California. There were magnolia blossoms everywhere!

Today's Flowers - One Year Anniversary

Congratulation to the Today's Flowers team on a wonderful year of flowers from all over the world!

My new job and travel time doesn't give me much time to blog and visit everyone. I really miss it. So, I was determined to spend some time blogging. I feel like it's been so long I can't even remember which days I'm supposed to do which memes. I think I've got this one right. We'll soon find out.

I don't know what this little flower is. It was growing in a pot in my sister's back yard and the flower was probably no bigger than my thumbnail but I thought it was really pretty.

Today's Flowers - Magnolias

I've always loved magnolia blossoms, especially the white ones like the ones I've posted today. I'm fascinated by these big, beautiful blooms in the trees, some bigger than my face as I walk up to them (if I'm lucky enough to find them low on a tree).

I think they're beautiful even when they've begun to age and they become a brownish color.

Today's Flowers

These were taken at my last trip to the Huntington Library Museum & Botanical Gardens near Pasadena, California. I went to see the Stinky Plant (not the real name but I'll post it later), and I saw these water lilies in the Chinese Garden.

The shot above is just one view from the Chinese Garden. This one shows where the lily pads were located.

These were so large that if you hold up your palms and hold your hands together the flower would fill your hands.

I don't remember ever seeing one with this center before. Reminds me of a wax candle. Don't you just want to reach out with a match and light it?

Today's Flowers - Wooly Blue Curls

My photos for today's meme are called Trichostema Lanatum - Wooly Blue Curls. I wish I'd remember how to use the manual focus on my camera. Whenever I need it I can't remember how to get to it. I needed it for these because the lens kept wanting to focus on the background and not the flower. Urrrggghhh! LOL!

Anyway, I've always like the soft curl of the stamen and the lovely colors. Oh! And can you see the hummingbird in the first photo? :-)

Today's Flowers & Mellow Yellow Monday

I was walking around Descanso Gardens yesterday when they sprinklers went off. I went a little crazy taking shots of the drops of water on a lot of the flowers. I had such a good time and I think they came out so well. Here are just a few of them.

Today's Flowers

It's gotten a little easier to find something to post for the memes I participate in now that all of my photos are a little more organized. I really liked these and hope you do too.

A White Rose
By John Boyle O'Reilly (1844-1890)

THE red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.

But I send you a cream-white rosebud
With a flush on its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

Today's Flower - Matilija Poppy

I thought I'd post the flower that's in my header. It's called a Matilija Poppy, is native to Northwestern America, and grows up to about 8 feet tall. The bush in my first photo was just slight taller than I am and I'm 5'4". It blooms between May and July.

He Love Me, He Loves Me Not - Today's Flowers

Did you ever like someone and take a flower and pull it's petals off saying "He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not", alternating with each petal you pulled? That's what these photos reminded me of today.

And then I thought of God and how He loves me... and how He loves you. And I don't care how many times a little doubt may creep into your head, it's a guarantee that no matter how many times you might try this, the last petal will alway be "He Loves Me." HE LOVES ME!

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us. and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins... We have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him... We love him, because he first loved us.
--1 John 4:10, 16, 19

Today's Flowers - Orchids

I've been to the Los Angeles Arboretum several times but my last visit a week ago was the first time I'd seen the green house where they keep their orchids. I've never seen so many varieties of orchids. Here are just a few of them. Okay, there are several.
