Like Putting Lipstick On A Pig

I can't believe the Republicans feigned indignation over Obama using this statement and accused him of slander towards Palin when McCain has been noted for using the same statement on more than one occasion. To me, it's typical political (excuse my French) bull shit.

I can't believe that during the Republican convention they used the horrid pictures from 9-11, not in tribute to those who lost their lives, but in an attempt to instill fear in Americans and say that if you don't vote a Republican in office then it is likely to happen again - forgetting that it was Republicans in office when it happenned and Republicans who chose to ignore the warnings they received. It was Republicans in office that ignored those American citizens in Louisiana suffering after Katrina as if Louisiana was a third world country.

This is the anniversary of that tragic day when the twin towers were attacked and so many lives were lost, when America stood still in shock and horror and watched the most tragic event in our history. In my humble opinion the best honor I believe we can pay to those who lost their lives is to vote for change, to cast a vote that says we're tired of the games, of them pumping ridiculous stories to the media to lead the public's attention away from what is really going on.

I am a humble American citizen - I worked for a company for 20 yrs before being layed off. I'm between jobs, unemployed since March, looking at the high cost of college to try to finish working towards a degree (more debt), looking at ads for which the most menial job now requires a college degree, wondering if I may have to sell my house and if I will have anything left after that sell because the values have decreased. I have no medical insurance because Cobra would have cost me $600.00 a month that I couldn't afford. I know that I have God in my corner and things will work out. But it doesn't mean I don't have awareness of what is going on or compassion for many others in the same boat who don't know what tomorrow will bring. I think about the soldiers fighting a war we were duped into who then come home and find themselves homeless in a country that doesn't care they just risked their lives for them.

I don't know about you but I'm not in a position to vote for the same politics and business as usual. I, like many other Americans in the same position, are crying out for change, for a government that realizes this country is built on the backbone of it's people not the corporations.

Today, I had to vent and thank anyone who made it this far reading this. From where I stand I am more afraid of another Republican in office for another 4 years, the same old politics as usual, a bigger hole in the economy and more people out of work, than I am of a potential terrorist attack.

Come November I hope you vote your heart but I sure hope your heart is hoping for change. I don't want to see any more lipstick on a pig. My life and the lives of so many other Americans are stained with it.
