Mantis & Grasshopper

I almost missed this grasshopper because it was the same color green as the leaf. Though it wasn't too camera shy it did move around a bit until I got this shot.

I almost missed this praying mantis too hiding under the bloom of a rose. Now this one was shy and I chased it all around the stem until I got some decent shot, not perfect but decent.

Descanso Gardens #5 - Fruits & Veggies

One of the attractions at the Descanso Gardens is the area dedicated to fruits and vegetables. Having never grown any I'll admit this was a bit of a learning experience for me. I know flowers come before the fruit but I never stopped to think that strawberries had flowers. I never stopped to think that there was a squash flower either. Thought I'd share just a few of those photos.

I believe this is a calla lily but I could be wrong. It's shaped like one but the colors... they were just amazing to me.

I think these are day lilies. There is just something so pure about white flowers...
