My World Tuesday - Redondo Beach

In my hay day, when we wanted something to do on a Saturday we'd hit Redondo Beach. It was only about 20 minutes away on the streets and it was not only visually appealing but there was always plenty to do, especially if you went to the pier.

This first photo is from the main street we always took heading towards the pier looking down one of the side streets.

This main thoroughfair has an intermittent mix of stores and restaurants, and housing. It's a great tourist trap (and I love tourist traps), and also great entertainment for the local residents.

At the west end of the pier (we'd pass this before getting to the pier), there is a mini restaurant row. Fine dining with a view of the pier and ocean. Wonderful ambiance!

Though there are a few ways to actually park and enter the pier, this is the main entrance to the huge parking structure.

The rest of these will just be shots of the pier itself.

Ports O'Call

Just a few more pictures from my last trip to the beach. The first is a statue that greets you at the entrance.

This is just one of the many boats docked there.

And this is one of the star fish I saw as I was standing at the railing looking at the boats. I've never seen star fish except at the aquarium so I thought it was pretty awesome to see this just hanging out at the edge of the water.

If you're interested in seeing a couple more pictures of this place you can see them on my other blog Down Around L.A.

Wings & Waves

I was so happy that there were a few birds out taking it easy on such a pretty day. I don't know what any of these birds are except the sea gulls. The minute I saw the big one it was all I could do not to run over because I knew it would send them flying. (Click on any picture for larger view).

Cabrillo Beach

I've been wanting some place different to go and remembered Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro here in Southern California. The first time I went there I was a kid on a field trip and we went to the Maritime Museum. I've been back several times, mostly on dates just to kick it. It's not one of L.A. County's most popular beaches, it's not one that stretches as far as the eye can see and part of its skyline is the the unattractive docks. But I like it. I found out the museum is no longer there but they now have an aquarium.

Why can't I go anywhere and not take less than 500 pictures? :-O Needless to say, I'll be posting pics from my visit to Cabrillo beach over the next few days.
