If I've identified this correctly, this is a Ginger Plant. I've seen it before but didn't know what it was. This was in a floral display in the Home and Garden section at the L.A. County Fair.
These were some of the pigs at the fair. I've never understood what people liked so much about pigs that they took them in as pets. No offense to anyone who thinks they are cute, it's just that it is NOT my opinion of them (smile). Although, I will say that the little piggy in the bottom picture did may be say, "Awwwwww!"
I had to do a close-up of the cute little one front and center.
I lucked up and wandered into the equestrian area just in time to see a couple of horses and riders entering the... circle (smile). I found a nice spot under the shade of a tree thinking they were just exercising their horses and the very small crowd of people were just out of the sun taking a break. I hesitated to take pics never knowing how people feel about having their picture taken or if I'm breaking some rules unknown to me, but I got over it and started taking pics. Lo and behold one rider after another began to enter the circle and I notice they were wearing blue and white shirts. I knew something was about to happen. They were about to play Buskahi. Now that I'm writing this post I wish I paid more attention to the announcer. I know this game as Buskashi but don't know if that's what he called it though I know he did mention that this was a game that is popular in Afghanistan and has become a new game here. There are two teams of horse riders and a goat (in this case a leather goat). The object is to get the goat from the ground and take it to your post. Click here if you want to know the actual history and more details about the game. I remember seeing it in a movie, Rambo III. When they took a break I was able to get a few more personal shots of those beautiful horses.
The L.A. County Fair opened today. I used to go every year but haven't been for the last two. Mostly I would just hit the bungalows for the shopping because more times than not I would go buy myself since I just live down the street. This year I did something I don't normally do, I visited the area with all of the animals - pigs, goats, sheep, cows, horses. And I did something I never do - I left the bungalows and shopping alone. :-) I did my usual when I have my camera - too many pics to post now I have to pic out some favorites so this will come in several posts as I go through them and downsize them for posting.
These were a couple of sheep after they had been sheared.
A white turkey! I've never seen one. I wonder if there are naturally white ones or if these are albino and rare. I guess I could look it up but I'm tired and a little lazy right now.
