Monochrome Monday - At The Beach

This is my first Monochrome Monday post. I don't know how often I can participate but I had a few shots to share this week so here goes:

Today's Flower #15 - Trumpet Flower

I don't know the official name of this. I just know it's a trumpet flower and it's a huge one, probably about as long as my forearm. I liked the soft white color of it and that it was nestled in the shade under some trees.

So Many Fires

It's fire season and it hasn't failed to deliver. The Santa Ana winds caused havoc making what might have been one little fire sweep across acres and acres of land uncontrolled. One started Thursday in Monticito near Santa Barbara, then another started last night at 10:30 p.m. in Sylmar, then another this morning in Anaheim Hills at about 10:00 a.m. Freeways were closed all over the place because the fires were to close to freeways and/or jumped across freeways. They weren't closed to me but you could still see the smoke that filled the sky.

This is the sky looking east:


At least 4 freeways were closed for miles which caused back-up and freeway conjestion all over L.A. County and it's suburbs.

I went fire chasing because it looked relatively close going south but after a nice drive I realized it wasn't that close and it was difficult finding a hill I could actually get to the top of to get a good picture so I pulled over just to take a shot of the glow coming from the other side of a hill. It's a really bad picture put I'm posting it just to show the hill in the distance as it looked tonight.


Again, bad picture but if you click on it to zoom in you'll see a building and the hill behind it. The hill is actually way in the distance and not as close as it looks.

Feeding Time

While I was out walking around Ports O'Call I came upon a roof where a portion of it was cover with pigeons. All of a sudden the pigeons began to flock around a window that was in the roof. They must have heard the man that appeared at the window before he even opened it and then he began to feed the pigeons. What a feeding frenzy it became but it was so interesting!
