Watery Wednesday #84
I hope I haven't shared these photos in one of my others blogs. These are shots from my trip to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. At this time of the year while everything is green from the rain, it is absolutely gorgeous there! I never ran out of wonderful things to photograph and there was plenty of water.

Watery Wednesday #74
A continuation from the water shot on the meme page. These were taken at Bolsa Chica Wetlands back in May of 2009. As I walked along the path I could see this group of birds circling and circling. As I got close enough I could see that they were diving into the water. There must have been a huge school of fish there because...
they kept circling the water and diving in for as long as I felt like standing there taking photos. I did post some of these before but I don't remember which ones and I'm too lazy to go check. LOL!

Watery Wednesday #73
I thought I'd be able to post a little more before Watery Wednesday rolled around again but that didn't happen. Still, I did get out to Bolsa Chica Wetlands/Ecological Reserve this past weekend. I had such a great time. There weren't quite as many birds as I've seen before but the ones that were there definitely put on a show. This is right up my Watery Wednesday alley so I hope you enjoy them all. This is my Watery Wednesday input (wetlands...get it? LOL!)
The first thing I saw when I got out of the car was this pelican flying around and then diving into the water for fish, then it just chilled in the water with its buddy.

Watery Wednesday #22
These were taken up at the lake by me, Bonelli Park. With all the rain we've finally received the water level is way up. In fact, any of the picnic tables near the edge are completely submerged and the water is up over the small piers people use to fish from.
The ducks seemed to like sitting on the tops of the tables.

Watery Wednesday #14
I wanted to show what the difference that a little water falling from the sky will do to a landscape. The first one shows a view of the snowy mountains after our huge rain yesterday. I hear they've received the largest amount of snow in 10 years at Big Bear.
I took the shot below before the rain. I was more interested in the lady feeding the ducks.
The shot below was taken this morning after the rain. Notice how much higher the lake is. If the duck lady had been sitting there feeding the ducks today she'd be all wet. You can't even see the cement base under the table. That was a GREAT rain and we needed it.

Sorry, nothing going on in this sky at all on this day last week. Just clear blue skies but look at how great that makes the water look. Ain't it purty? :-)

My World Tuesday #4
I thought I'd show something closer to home. I've always called this place Azusa Canyon because if you take Azusa Blvd. north off the 210 Freeway and head north, this is where it takes you. Officially, it's the San Bernardino Mountains which is part of the Los Angeles National Forest. It's about 15 minutes from me and in good traffic, about 40-45 minutes from the city of Los Angeles, but all a part of Los Angeles county.
The picture above is the San Gabriel dam. The pictures below are as you head more up the mountains. It had rained significantly this time last year so there was much water. I took the first one late spring, early summer of this year. The second one was taken about a week ago so you can see how much water has dried up.

This is the bridge we would pass when we used to go off-roading. Again, the first picture was earlier this year after a great rain. The second is recently showing how much water is gone. Two things to note. Check out how much greener that tree is at the center of the bridge. And check out the tall thin tree in the 2nd photo and then note how small it is in the first picture.

And this is a really old picture of the sand-rail we used to ride around down there in the canyon. What filthy fun, especially when you found spots of water that had not dried up yet and went sailing through sending water everywhere, especially on you on a hot day.

MORE FISHY STUFF
I haven't posted anything in a while. I haven't been anywhere to take pictures so I'll continue with some pictures from the Long Beach Aquarium. They're not perfect but I think they're worth sharing.
This is, let me see if I can remember what it was... a leafy seahorse? No, a Leafy Sea Dragon.
And... a starfish that was plastered against the window allowing perfect viewing of it's belly:
This sea turtle was as long as I was tall swimming back and forth across the huge tank:
I lucked up and was right on time to see a diver in one of the huge tanks. One of the guides in the crowd was actually carrying on a conversation with her. I wasn't paying any attention to what they were talking about (smile):

TODAY'S PHOTOS - 04/25/08
Back at Bonelli Park today. It's such a huge place and this is the first time I've really explored so much of it. I found a really quite place, a little alcove...well, it wasn't so little. The further away from the lake I found a few people who seemed to be bird watching. It was such a beautiful day...
