Watery Wednesday #76

One of these days I'll be able to do more to my photo blog than my Watery Wednesday additions, but I so love sharing my photos and hope you enjoy them. These and the one on the main Watery Wednesday meme page are from my trip back to Bolas Chica this past weekend. It was beautiful to me, cloudy and all.

This is the beach directly across the street. Normally I don't go over to it but this day I could hear and actually see the waves crashing and it lured me over. It was beautiful.

From this view you can't tell that the storm clouds were behind me slowly edging their way in this direction. And... the one below is watery but I couldn't resist posting this capture.

Watery Wednesday #73

I thought I'd be able to post a little more before Watery Wednesday rolled around again but that didn't happen. Still, I did get out to Bolsa Chica Wetlands/Ecological Reserve this past weekend. I had such a great time. There weren't quite as many birds as I've seen before but the ones that were there definitely put on a show. This is right up my Watery Wednesday alley so I hope you enjoy them all. This is my Watery Wednesday input (wetlands...get it? LOL!)

The first thing I saw when I got out of the car was this pelican flying around and then diving into the water for fish, then it just chilled in the water with its buddy.

Brown Pelican

I've spent the last few days cleaning out my hard drive that has all of my photos on it. 120 gigs and I only had 4 left. I've now got 43 gigs left and most my photos are a little more organized. I'm still working on transfering more to DVD's. It's been tiresome on the one hand but fun finding photos I'd forgotten I'd taken and never shared. I thought I'd post these of the brown pelican.

I love taking shots of the pelican and I've got enough photos to prove it. I think it has such an interesting face and it's one of the few birds I've managed to easily catch in flight. These were taken at Cabrillo Beach.

The Bathing Pelicans

I needed to get out and really wanted to take some pics today so I decided to go to the zoo. When I got over to where the pelicans were it was a real treat for me to see one of them playing in the water. I thought it would be one of those incidents where you'd better snap it quickly because it might not do it again, but it was doing some serious bathing around the waterfall.

I had a field day trying to get just the right shot. So there are going to be several shots out of the many I took. I just had too many favorites to keep this short.

After they got through bathing they got out and began to go through this preening ritual and wing flapping to dry off that afforded me the opportunity to take some really great shots. At least I think they're great.

I wish I could share them all but I'm not even going to tell you how many pelican shots I've added to my library. LOL!

In Flight - Sky Watch Friday #11

I already posted this earlier and thought I may as well use it as my Sky Watch entry.

I spent my time at the beach trying to capture the birds that were out and about. I don't know if these are all brown pelicans or not so feel free to chime in if I've got this wrong. There were so many of them out that a couple of times they flew overhead in a flock. Since I couldn't seem to capture them as they dove into the water I took a short video clip. Now mind you, this is a horrible clip because I was fighting the wind and the bird was so fast, but I wanted to document at least one dive into the water which comes at the end of the clip.

I still think they look like pterodactyls. :-)
