In Flight - Sky Watch Friday #11

I already posted this earlier and thought I may as well use it as my Sky Watch entry.

I spent my time at the beach trying to capture the birds that were out and about. I don't know if these are all brown pelicans or not so feel free to chime in if I've got this wrong. There were so many of them out that a couple of times they flew overhead in a flock. Since I couldn't seem to capture them as they dove into the water I took a short video clip. Now mind you, this is a horrible clip because I was fighting the wind and the bird was so fast, but I wanted to document at least one dive into the water which comes at the end of the clip.

I still think they look like pterodactyls. :-)

Boy you have a lot of blogs, I'm flat out finding time to keep up with just one....
Great Pelican pics & video. I love all birds, even plain old sparrows & crows.
This reminded me of a rhyme...

Pelican, Pelican, Pelican
His beak holds more than his belly can

Aren't pelicans interesting looking birds? So different in flight than when on the ground. These make a nice Skywatch set.

Great shots; my favourite is the last one. They look so ungainly you wonder how they stay aloft..

That's a fun video. You're right, these birds look prehistoric.
Shalom to you.

That bird in flight is truly magnificent.

Yes, that's Paris, without Notre Dame or Eiffelturm, but I liked the endless ocean of houses, the only the sky above, and all those people enjoying the view :)

Perfect catch..... Great job! Reminds me the saying,,,, We never know how high we are, till we are called to ris; and then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the sky... Happy Skywatch! Hope you can visit my SWF entry too...

Those are great shots! I love the last 2. It is so hard to track and photograph flying birds. I always lose my focus and end up with blurs (sigh) The video is really good for showing what was happening. Wonderful!

Marvelous birds! They dive so clumsy though, don't they?

Hats off to you for keeping him in your sights for so long! Great dive and also great shots to follow. I know how hard it is to photograph birds in flight.
