What a Face!

Although some of these aren't as sharp and clear as I would like I thought these faces were worth sharing. I didn't remember to get the names of anything, sorry. I do like the little smiling faces of the eels (if they're eels), and the funky halo around one of the fish is actually the frame of the lens of my camera. Not a bad unintentional effect, huh? :-)

Descanso Gardens #3 - The Koi

If you read my first post on the Descanso Gardens you may remember that I said I'd never seen so many Koi in my life. There was specfically two Koi Ponds and then there were brown Koi in different parts of the stream that was the forefront and edge off the Camelia Forest.

Swell Shark

I thought these Swell Sharks were kind of cute. The texture of their skin looked to me like brushed felt. These were about a foot long but I understand they can get as big as four feet and they eat smaller fish or anything they can easily swallow. What was very interesting to me was that they were just all over each other.
And will you look at those eyes!

Football Fish

One more post today. This is a Football Fish or Anglerfish. Okay, this is just gross looking. It lives in water over a thousand feet deep where there is no light, it's usually black and that weird appendage on top of it's head glows on the tip to act as a lure to attract other fish. Their stomachs can expand to several times its normal size so it can eat fish larger than itself. This was the weirdest thing I've seen in a long time. By the way, this was not alive. It was caught in 1989 by a fisherman not far from San Clemente Island.

More Fishy Stuff

I wish you could have seen these lobsters and how big they were. Let me put it this way. You know those tanks where you can pick your lobster. One of these would have barely fit in one of those tanks....and it would have easily climbed out.

And I don't know what the ones are below. I just liked the pictures. :-)

And I think we all know this is a stingray. Man, this thing was huge. I'm sure it was easily 4-5 feet long not include that tail.

Little Fishies

I went back to the Long Beach Aquarium trying to work with my camera a little more and get some better shots than the last time. I still have some work to do in figuring out some settings and why I mess up so many shots!!! Urrrggghhh! LOL!

MORE FISHY STUFF

I haven't posted anything in a while. I haven't been anywhere to take pictures so I'll continue with some pictures from the Long Beach Aquarium. They're not perfect but I think they're worth sharing.

This is, let me see if I can remember what it was... a leafy seahorse? No, a Leafy Sea Dragon.

And... a starfish that was plastered against the window allowing perfect viewing of it's belly:

This sea turtle was as long as I was tall swimming back and forth across the huge tank:

I lucked up and was right on time to see a diver in one of the huge tanks. One of the guides in the crowd was actually carrying on a conversation with her. I wasn't paying any attention to what they were talking about (smile):
