La Luna (The Moon)

The other day when I went to the park, the sun was setting and when I got in my car I looked to the east and there was this big 'ol moon just coming up through the trees.

Morning Glories

As pretty as these little purple flowers are, they are the bain of my garden existence. Not only do they attract bumble bees which send me running into the house but they take over EVERYTHING! I pulled them up one year after I planted them many years ago and they still pop up all over my yard. Because they're vines, if I don't pull them up quickly they literally take over everything and I have to untwine and clip them out of my rose bushes and whatever else they've invaded. Still, they did make for a pretty picture before I pulled them out of my gladiolas.

PURPLE AND WHITE

I'm not sure what kind of lily this is or even if it's a lily thought that's what I've always called it. My neighbor has them in front of his yard and somehow the seeds wound up in mine and now I have two plants. See, you don't have to buy everything (smile).

METAL BUTTERFLY

Since I haven't seen any real butterflies I thought I'd take a picture of a metal one on my bird feeder.

REFLECTIONS

Reflections on a DVD.

FIREWORKS

I realize I have a lot to learn and that maybe I need to invest in a camera with different lenses.... or really learn mine a little more. I love fireworks and this was the first time I actually attempted to take pictures of some. The fireworks setting on my camera didn't allow me to know exactly what I was taking pictures of. But, it was a learning experience and I tried different settings trying to see which would work best. Needless to say, only a few of them came out.

ALWAYS A LADY

Ladybugs have always been the one insect I actually like. When they did all of that malathion spraying out here a while back to attack the dreadful little flies that were causing so much havoc, we lost a lot of garden visitors. I had not seen lady bugs in a while so when I see one now I'm like a kid again.

LORIKEETS

I went to the Long Beach Aquarium today. I'm really disappointed with my pics of the fish. Taking them through the glass was a challenge (frown). I've still got to browse through and pic out some good ones but I thought I'd start with the pics of the Lorikeets they had there. They were enclosed in this large aviary you walked into and there was a ton of mist so I'm glad I was wearing my wig (smile). For $2 you could buy...oh, I forget what it was but it was something sweet in a little cup and the birds would come right up on your hand and drink it. They were the prettiest birds!

GLADIOLAS

Do you ever have those moments when you take a picture, look at it and your breath is taken away, when you feel in your spirit that there was more to that picture than you behind the lens? There are times I take a picture and feel the lens holds the pen and I'm just the messenger.

SANTA MONICA PIER & VENICE BEACH

I decided to head out to the pier yesterday. I heard it was going to be a little cloudy and the waves were supposed to be 7-10 feet. I thought, great! That should make for some interesting photos. Well, it wasn't cloudy and the waves weren't that tall but I still got some great pics. You can see some of them at my other blog Down Around L.A..
