Like Putting Lipstick On A Pig

I can't believe the Republicans feigned indignation over Obama using this statement and accused him of slander towards Palin when McCain has been noted for using the same statement on more than one occasion. To me, it's typical political (excuse my French) bull shit.

I can't believe that during the Republican convention they used the horrid pictures from 9-11, not in tribute to those who lost their lives, but in an attempt to instill fear in Americans and say that if you don't vote a Republican in office then it is likely to happen again - forgetting that it was Republicans in office when it happenned and Republicans who chose to ignore the warnings they received. It was Republicans in office that ignored those American citizens in Louisiana suffering after Katrina as if Louisiana was a third world country.

This is the anniversary of that tragic day when the twin towers were attacked and so many lives were lost, when America stood still in shock and horror and watched the most tragic event in our history. In my humble opinion the best honor I believe we can pay to those who lost their lives is to vote for change, to cast a vote that says we're tired of the games, of them pumping ridiculous stories to the media to lead the public's attention away from what is really going on.

I am a humble American citizen - I worked for a company for 20 yrs before being layed off. I'm between jobs, unemployed since March, looking at the high cost of college to try to finish working towards a degree (more debt), looking at ads for which the most menial job now requires a college degree, wondering if I may have to sell my house and if I will have anything left after that sell because the values have decreased. I have no medical insurance because Cobra would have cost me $600.00 a month that I couldn't afford. I know that I have God in my corner and things will work out. But it doesn't mean I don't have awareness of what is going on or compassion for many others in the same boat who don't know what tomorrow will bring. I think about the soldiers fighting a war we were duped into who then come home and find themselves homeless in a country that doesn't care they just risked their lives for them.

I don't know about you but I'm not in a position to vote for the same politics and business as usual. I, like many other Americans in the same position, are crying out for change, for a government that realizes this country is built on the backbone of it's people not the corporations.

Today, I had to vent and thank anyone who made it this far reading this. From where I stand I am more afraid of another Republican in office for another 4 years, the same old politics as usual, a bigger hole in the economy and more people out of work, than I am of a potential terrorist attack.

Come November I hope you vote your heart but I sure hope your heart is hoping for change. I don't want to see any more lipstick on a pig. My life and the lives of so many other Americans are stained with it.

Three cheers for you. Well said. I'm not very political but I'm p*ssed off, so maybe I should be more political. What happened to the days when my generation got out there and protested? Oh, that's right. We're in office now and mucking things up. Time for a change! Thank you for stopping by my blog while I was on break. I'm still not back 100%, but feeling a little better each day. Your visits and comments meant a lot to me.

I'm outraged too...though not surprised. They have to distract from the issues...cause they can't win on them. Their only hope is fear and division. It's so disheartening given the state of our country. Sometimes I get so mad at the American people sucking in this stuff. But I have hope...and I'll be voting with you in November! PS...I have a similar post as this coming up on Monday. Stay tuned...

You won't hear any argument from me.
Although I wasn't directly effected by 9/11 - it did cost me dearly. About a years of wages and bonuses, and of course, my job in 2001.
My life savings went up in smoke like the twin towers.
Being born in Germany and having been raised to be aware what's going on politically I am saddened that Democracy in US is on an all time low. Voters excluded for they lost their homes, tricks like that to advance the republicans, an election campaign focusing on people instead of the issues, too much of that on both sides, and politicians, that you can't trust as far as you can though them.
While I hope that the McCain/Palin team goes south big time, I also know, that unless the entire election system is brought into the 21st century and the 2 Party system is toppled, the changes that will be made will not really be enough. That is frustrating
Let's hope for the best and that not too many people fall for the republican propaganda. If they do - I will be considering leaving the states for good.
Cheers, Klaus

Politics/politicians seem to have degenerated all over the world. Your angst can be shared by all your readers.

Bravo! Well said. The "politics of fear" is such a despicable strategy. I pray that enough people are smart enough to see through it come election day.

You have said what I have been feeling for the past week. I am so afraid that the politics of fear and resentment will prevail again. God help us all.
