My Bad Bird Shots

These aren't too bad but they sure aren't the quality of some of the jaw dropping photos I've seen. Still, I wanted to share them just the same. This was the first time in my visits to Descanso Gardens that there were so many out and about and I think it was because it was overcast and a little cooler than the other days. I haven't a clue what they are. I was just excited that I finally saw some. :-) If you know what these birds are please feel free to let me know.

This little one swooped down while I was standing still and decided to play in this puddle of water.

And these are about the prettiest ducks I've ever seen. They are ducks, right? :-)

This was the first bird I captured a photo of at Descanso Gardens, maybe last week. I saw quite a few of them on this day. And looking at the feathers and coloring I think the one following this picture is a female or baby of the same bird...but maybe not but they were pecking around through the grass together. I've been trying to look these up and I think the one with the curved beak is a California Thrasher. I saw a pic that looked like the other which read California Towhee but don't take it as fact.

And this is where a bird was. LOL! It took off before I could snap it.

Hallo 2sweetnsaxy, please come over to my blog, there is an award waiting for you!

Great captures! The first one is, I'm pretty sure, a House Wren, and I think the California Towhee is a great guess for the second and sixth photos.

The duck are Wood Ducks, and I think you are right about the Curved Billed Thrasher too. The fourth photo looks like some sort of Pewee or Phoebe.

I'm so not up on California birds! :c)

Other than the ducks, I didn't recognize any of them...different birds out west...not that I know all the eastern birds! :(

Hi, 2sweet!

Let's see: Bewick's wren, dark-eyed (Oregon) junco, wood duck, Say's phoebe (probably), Cal. thrasher (yaay you!) and Cal. towhee. Last photo is probably a spotted towhee.
I think your bird photos are pretty darn good!

You already have answers to your ID questions, so I'll just give a little cheer for the wren (tada!) and remark that I have several photos just like that last one. :)

Nothing wrong with these, I think they are all cracking.

Sorry missed the last shot, I have a whole collection of empty branches and trigs and blurred flight shots, shame these are worthless or I'd be a millionaire.

Maria - An award? For me!? Awesome! I'll be right there! :-)

Jayne - Thank you. I knew you could help! :-D

June - That's okay. Thanks anyway. :-)

Julie - Thank you too! If I'm not careful I'll be a real bird watcher soon. ;-)

Wren & Mike - I'm glad I'm not the only one with those empty photos. I started to do a series of them. LOL!

...and not bad pics at all.
I know - for I'm notoriously bad at songbirds. Yep - you go become a birdwatcher! ;)
Cheers, Klaus

Klaus - Thank you! As for birdwatching, don't know if I can do that until I can get another camera and one of those awesome zoom lenses. :-)

T: What a great set of bird captures, very nicely done. I like that one with the curved beak.

I think your bird photos are great. I'm glad they were identified as I would like to become a bird watcher too and this is how we learn. I have loads of those empty space shots. Those little guys are fast!!!
