The Aviary -#2

This was from my second trip to the aviary at the Los Angeles Zoo. It didn't smell this time and I was SO happy about that. I got frustrated with my camera though. I still haven't mastered my camera and I missed soooo many shots. I couldn't get the focus right and of course, this happened when the birds were just sitting there to get their picture taken.

Green Turaco

White Crowned Robin Chat - At one point this bird came and landed on a branch right over my shoulder. I had it in sight, aimed, shot and the focus went ca-ca. It flew away. I HATE those missed shots.

Violaceous Turaco - I wish I'd been able to capture this bird in flight. If you'll notice, there is red at the bottom of it's wings. This red is all under the wings so that when they are spread in flight all you see is red. Wow! It was beautiful.

Inca Tern - I mis-identified a bird from my first aviary post. This is the Inca Tern. If you look closely at the first shot it has a handlebar moustache!

The White Crowned Robin image is wonderful, composition, colours and details are all first class! The rest of the images are great to, just that one for me is perfect. Great work.

If your camera is the one on the sidebar, we have similar cameras. I have a FinePix, too, but not as good as yours :-) I fight the focusing constantly and can not figure out how to make it grab the focus more quickly and see the large object I'm trying to take a picture of instead of every little thing in the area. It gets so frustrating, so I understand what you are talking about! Your photos are still great, which shows much perseverance on your part, as I know! Stick with it! I love the one with the handlebar moustache! LOL!

What a cool line up of birds. And I can sing a song of missing shots. I missed at least a hundred, when these little critters hooped from twig to twig. Of course just before me being able to take the shot. I had to delete a ton of pics, showing nothing but empty branches - maybe with some legs leaving the pic! ;)

Oh boy does this bring back memories. First of all, fantastic photos. You've got some beautiful birds here, all great captures. When we lived in San Diego we were walking through this aviary and a bird dropped a package on top of my husband's head. We hadn't long before been to Sea World and I remember him saying as he mopped his head, "Am I glad whales can't fly!" Just had to share that with you. Feel free to delete if that grosses you out :)
