So Many Fires

It's fire season and it hasn't failed to deliver. The Santa Ana winds caused havoc making what might have been one little fire sweep across acres and acres of land uncontrolled. One started Thursday in Monticito near Santa Barbara, then another started last night at 10:30 p.m. in Sylmar, then another this morning in Anaheim Hills at about 10:00 a.m. Freeways were closed all over the place because the fires were to close to freeways and/or jumped across freeways. They weren't closed to me but you could still see the smoke that filled the sky.

This is the sky looking east:

At least 4 freeways were closed for miles which caused back-up and freeway conjestion all over L.A. County and it's suburbs.

This is the sky looking west:

I went fire chasing because it looked relatively close going south but after a nice drive I realized it wasn't that close and it was difficult finding a hill I could actually get to the top of to get a good picture so I pulled over just to take a shot of the glow coming from the other side of a hill. It's a really bad picture put I'm posting it just to show the hill in the distance as it looked tonight.

Again, bad picture but if you click on it to zoom in you'll see a building and the hill behind it. The hill is actually way in the distance and not as close as it looks.

Awesome, quite frightening images! Even that pall of smoke must create very poor air quality and make breathing easily difficult!

Please take care of yourself!

Glad you're not in the line of fire (sorry for the pun). It's so, so terrible...homes and nature destroyed...lives changed. Hope they get put out soon!

It's been so scary seeing the images on the news. I can't even imagine seeing a wall of fire headed my way.

Fire is so scary and such a tragedy for those where it does occur regularly. I'm glad you aren't real close! Good photos!

These fires are very scary. Yet all that smoke does make for colorful sunsets. In the last one you look to be too close, even if you say you're not. Please be careful, and not just of the fire and smoke.

Sorry to hear about your fires! But your photos - especially the night ones captured the enormity of the situation.

Thank you guys so much for your comments. I'm safe, I'm good. They're finally started to get some containment on these fires and that's a big relief.

God, the fires have been terrible. We haven't been affected, here in Murrieta. Keeping fingers crossed.

Pretty scary and am happy to hear they weren't close to where you live. These however are spectacular photographs and there is much beauty in them, hard to equate them with all that destruction. Informative post, I have seen it on the news but you bring it home.
