I went to Bolsa Chica Wetlands yesterday. I've got to say, when I took the shot on the meme's main page, I was standing beside photographers with their tripods and massive lenses. I think they were all waiting to capture the heron as it caught a fish. I felt like such a novice standing there with my little camera and built in zoom. I felt like they were shooting their cannons (Boom!), and I came in with a little six-shooter going pop, pop! I wonder if they laughed and called me a rookie after I'd taken my shots and walked off. LOL!
The birds below were really putting on a show. At various parts of the preserve, there would be about 10-15 birds flying above the water, scouting it for fish and then they would dive bomb into the water. All you could hear was them squawking and the sound of them plummeting into the water. Click on any to enlarge or you'll miss some of the water coming off the birds as they took off.
I think I spent most of my time photographing these birds. They were so fast I would never get them going into the water but I could get them coming out. Because of the delayed snap of the digital camera it took me a while before I figured out the timing and then it was on! The minute they splashed I had to snap the camera as I aimed at the splash of water. By the time it clicked, the bird was coming up out of the water. I was like a big kid. LOL! I actually got more good shots then I thought I did. I'd probably still be standing there if my batteries didn't fizzle out on me.
And you can see in the one below on the left that I actually got one coming up with a fish in it's mouth!

Nice action shots of the terns! I especially like that capture of the one with the fish hanging out of the side of his mouth. Looks almost like Groucho Marx with his trademark cigar clamped tightly in his teeth.
It can be so exciting when you capture birds on the wing! These are splendid action shots!
these are beautiful. very cool!
so much life thanks
Better capture than any of those with the tripods could get!Great!!!
Great shots of this gorgoeus bird fishing! And you caught one of them with a fish! Yeah!
Well done!
Those are good shots anyway, and love them. So lovely heron.
Great nature captures.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Being with other photographers with their tripod...probably make me feel shy...because I only have digital camera...but I still take my own shot c",)
You did a great job because the photos are cool. I think I will never be able to catch this bird like this
Tee hee! Loved your words! I bet your shots are as good or better than most of those with the big guns! ;-)
Nice work, 2sweetnsaxy!
Great shots. Always wish I could catch a bird in flight like this. =) Hope you have a wonderful day.
These birds are terns, no? If so - fantastic flight acrobats, and so hard to catch. I really enjoyed each photo of this series - just fabulous.
Great timing on the shots!
Very cool shots! Well done!
I think I just got splashed from the birds taking off. Fantastic shots.
Thanks for hosting Watery Wednesday, 2Sweet!

Great action shots! BTW thanks for the comment on my Key West mode of transportation shot yesterday.
Wow, they really did put on quite a show - and you captured them beautifully.
From lift off to touch down, a perfect 10! These are lovely shots!
You got some great pictures with your 'little' camera. I doubt if anyone else got any better pictures.
Wonderful shots! I love the take off, the splashh and the success story. Really beautifully done.
It is not the camera which counts but the person BEHIND it!! Always remember that TB. Your pictures are brillian so don't worry about those show offs. :)
Wonderful photos!
wonderful action shots!
I haven't seen a Tern since we left the island - superlative flyers. Seems it is a bird week...
Wow! Great action pictures!
Believe me, all these shots are perfectly rhymned into excellent animations. With a steady pulse like yours, who can go wrong? Impressive! You get them IN harmony to the ACTIONs you just needed in TIME.
Great job. I love the silvery colors of the water and birds. Nice combination. Your little camera does just fine, and besides you don't have to lug all that camera gear around!
great shots...this is my 1st watery wednesday...finding lots of great posts...
What a magnificent series of action shots! I live so close to this lovely wetlands you'd think I'd get myself and my camera there more often. Your photographs make me want to drop everything and drive over there right now!
Hugs and blessings,
