Monochrome Maniacs

I'm cheating just a little. I'm not actually sure if this is black and white or color. I took some shots in both but some of them looked the same like this one. I thought this was really cool. It was a bug on the water of a little creek that runs through Descanso Gardens. I'm not sure what kind of but it is but I liked the depressions made in the smooth surface of the water where its feet touched the water and the the reflections of the trees in those depressions.

Not sure what kind of bug it is. I thought they were mosquitoes but they're awfully big for mosquitoes. There were quite a few of them literally bouncing around on the water.

Wow, great shot! I thought it is resting on some metal form, and it is water indeed! Very impressive.

Ah, who cares what color it is. It's really cool, in a buggy kind of way.

Nice shot of the bug!
Looks like a stick insect, but I doubt it is. I'm hopeless with names of bugs..lol

Have a good Monday!!!

A most unusual shot TB. Yes they do look like mosquitoes but are not I think you call them Pond Skaters.

We would call it a 'water-boatman''
I like the reflections in the meniscus around the feet. This creature lives in constant tension - surface tension.

Mom, I have a water strider in my milk :)
Unbelievable - they move so fast I never thought about following one. Had no idea they are such a beautiful sight up close! The reflections on the contact spots are from out of this world. Amazing! Thank you!

Known as water skippers in my world, also water striders (http://sfcitizen.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/_o8f9000-copy1.jpg). In any case, a beautiful b&w, 2sweetnsaxy. Nifty on the macro photography.

That is awesome !!!

Those depressions and reflections are realy cool...

I so want a nacro lens !!! :-)

Re the US OUT nbanner in my post...a number of posters pointed out that there is a check mark next to the words, so it should be read as 'Check Us Out'.

OK, that makes sense ... to an American, however, I'm originally from New Zealand and there, that mark is a tick mark ...so my Kiwi brain was getting totally confused!! :-)

Absolutely incredible! I would never have thought reflections in such tiny spaces could be possible!

Excellent macro of the bug. I've seen these on ponds and lakes, but I don't know what they are called.

Beautiful, beautiful photo of this little bug. I am always so impressed with your macro photography. As for your comment, I just wanted to say that it is easy to confuse the groundhog and the beaver, and I also posted a groundhog previously so that might be where the confusion lay. Thanks for stopping by, always lovely to see you over at my place.
