My World Tuesday - Birds of Bolsa Chica

Excuse my French but I walked my ass off today. I was already a good walk into the wetlands when I took the photo below. I walked down the path on the right. Now, on the left about midway up the picture do you see the houses waaaaay in the back against the sky. I walked down the path on the right and then waaaay over there. All I keep hearing in my head are these lyrics, "What kind of fool am I?" LOL!

Please correct me if I got any of the names of the birds wrong.

BLUE BILL DUCK - I tried by best to get a good shot of this duck because the first thing I noticed about it was the blue bill. But each one that I saw seemed to know I was trying to take its photo and it would dive under water and turn up even further away from me.

EGRET - I haven't learned the differences between the egrets yet so I'll just identify this as an Egret. It was fun to watch this one tip toeing through the water seemingly stirring up life under the water and then it would duck it's head under the water trying to catch something.

LONG BILLED CURLEW - I could be wrong about this one too but it's the only one I identified that had a beak this long.

BLACK NAPED TERN - Not the best shot but worthy of posting just the same (smile).

I think these are sandpipers.

AMERICAN WIDEON - I was fascinated with this one because of the green around its eyes.

And I'm not sure what this one is either. I thought it only had one leg but when I got closer the other leg came down and it flew off.

Wow...love the blue billed duck! These are all great, but I love that egret shot of him plunging into the water. That curlew is neat! Love the sandpipers! What a wonderful bunch of shots!

How cool! Love all those birds--such a variety. Glad you walked to much to get the photos. I like the egret the best.

Enjoyed the pictures of the birds. You did a great job capturing them in their habitat. Now, if you didn't get the name correct, I'd never know the difference, so you are safe with me.

I saw your question at Mary's about scheduling posts. The answer is yes, before you post you simply click "Post Options" below the entry box and set the date and time. The problem some are having does not affect every blog, so try it to find out if it will work for you right now.

Now I will have to do some exploring here, as your blog certainly looks interesting.

Quite an assortment of wildlife -- and marvelous photos of them too!

I don't know if you use advance scheduling for Watery Wednesday or not, but if you do you should know that since last Friday Blogger has been having issues with scheduled posts not publishing when they're supposed to. there are several discussion threads going on the subject in the Help Forums, and Blogger Tech Support is working on it, but nobody knows for sure what's causing it yet. Apparently it doesn't affect all blogs and they can't duplicate the problem. so if you've scheduled Watery in advance, you may have to go in and hit the "Publish" button when it's time to go live.

just thought you oughta know.

What wonderful photos of each of these 'wetland' fowl! I'm just learning to name a few myself and interestingly MY WORLD at Sacred Ruminations features Bolsa Chica today too. I love to walk there especially now that I have a decent camera I'm just learning to use.

The egret photos, in particular, are stunning. But I'm really taken with the curlew. Never saw one like that before.

All that walking is worth it! You've got some really great shots of the birds! Love the Egret and that last unidentified bird!

Wow, these are amazing bird photos. I like the way you call their unique features to our attention. I never would have noticed the blue bill that one bird has. And I especially like the "one-legged" bird. How do they DO that?

Loved this post - fascinating, the diversity of bird life there. A friend of mine lived on a street called Bolsa Chica once upon a time, and she said it means "bag lady" LOL
